Turn Gemini answers into Anki flashcards

Gemini is good at drafting flashcards; 2anki turns them into a deck you study in Anki. If your Gemini client supports MCP servers, add https://2anki.net/mcp and ask for a deck directly. If it does not, copy Gemini's answer into a file and upload it to 2anki — either way you get a .apkg you open in Anki.

What the MCP connector is

2anki runs a hosted MCP connector at https://2anki.net/mcp. Any AI assistant that can connect to an MCP server can reach it, sign in once, and build decks through your 2anki account. Claude and ChatGPT have step-by-step guides today — see those. Whether Gemini can add the connector depends on the client you use, which the next section covers; the URL is the same for every assistant that can add it.

If your Gemini client supports MCP servers

Some Gemini clients can add a custom MCP server. If yours does, add https://2anki.net/mcp as the server, sign in to 2anki, and approve the consent screen once. Then ask Gemini for flashcards — "make 20 cards on the Krebs cycle" or "turn these notes into cloze cards" — and it hands back a download link for the .apkg. If you cannot find where to add an MCP server in your Gemini app, use the copy-and-upload path below instead.

The copy-and-upload path that always works

This path works with any version of Gemini. Ask Gemini to write your cards as a Markdown list or a two-column table — the question, then the answer. Copy its reply into a plain text file, save it as .md or .csv, and upload it at 2anki.net. 2anki reads the structure and hands back a .apkg deck. It is a step longer than a connector, but it needs nothing beyond a Gemini answer and one file upload.

What you can ask Gemini for

Ask for a specific count, a specific note type, or cloze deletions — "40 basic cards", "cloze cards", or "one card per key term". For clean uploads, ask Gemini to format the answer as a Markdown list or a term-and-definition table. Paste in a chapter, a list of terms, or a summary and let Gemini shape it into question-and-answer pairs before you convert.

What it costs

The free plan converts 100 cards a month, whether a connector builds them or you upload a file yourself. Unlimited removes the cap. It is the same account and the same decks — Gemini is another way to draft the cards, not a separate product or a separate bill.

Common questions

Does the 2anki connector work in Gemini?

It depends on your Gemini client. If your version of Gemini can add a custom MCP server, add https://2anki.net/mcp and ask for flashcards directly. If it cannot, ask Gemini to write the cards as a Markdown list or a table and upload that file to 2anki — that path works with any version.

Can Gemini turn a photo of my notes into cards?

Attach the photo in the chat and Gemini can draft cards from what it reads; upload that answer to 2anki. To convert the image itself, skip Gemini and upload the photo to 2anki's photo-to-deck tool, which reads the page and drafts cards you review.

What do I get back?

A .apkg deck — as a download link from a connector, or as a finished deck from the upload. Open it in Anki with a double-click, no add-on required. The cards work with FSRS or SM-2, whichever scheduling you have enabled.
